2024 Boys Volleyball Season Preview

Posted on 03/14/2024

The 2024 Dock Boys’ Volleyball team is a team in waiting. Most of our players have been in supportive roles previous years but now they have their chance. The team is eager to be tested and to have a chance to prove their high level of play. They want to be a scrappy hard working team that will surprise their opponents.

Changes are evident in the coaching staff. Head coach Kirby King remains but the entire supporting staff will be new. Tim Mackey will be varsity assistant. King and Mackey have many years of experience together from the late 1990s into the mid 2000s. Their similar coaching philosophy will be an important part of developing the varsity boys. The junior varsity coach is Jeff Hackman. Jeff was a player under both King and Mackey and now joins them as jv coach. This group of coaches is supported by several alum volunteers like Logan Hunsberger and Franky Rosenberger. The Dock athletes will not be shortchanged on skill development and team work. This coaching staff is excellent.

Cameron LeSuer is our leading outside hitter this year. He moved positions from middle last season to outside this season. Dylan Gable is our leading right side hitter, returning to the same positions this year. Trevor Ridge is returning as well. Last year Trevor was a defensive specialist and this year he will lead our offense as setter.

Sam DeCosta will be our other outside hitter. Sam is a great defender and is growing into his role as outside hitter. Justin Detweiler is a first year player but many fans will be surprised this is his first year. Justin will be our middle blocker/hitter, adding energy and skill to our team.

The team this year wants to return to States and make another deep run. We know we have a lot of hard work ahead of us but we see the potential. We want to stay strong and aggressive but also have a great team experience.

Many of our athletes played club with Indian Valley Volleyball Club. We look forward to regular season matches against these same club players from Pennridge and Souderton. In league play, we expect another great rivalry with Haverford.
